Die Heat Treatment

Heat treatment of die is an important process to ensure the performance of die. It has a direct impact on the following properties of the die.  

Precision of die manufacturing: uneven transformation of structure, incomplete and excessive residual stress caused by heat treatment result in deformation of die in the process of processing, assembly and use of die after heat treatment, which reduces the precision of die and even scraps it.  

Strength of die: improper heat treatment process, irregular heat treatment operation or inadequate state of heat treatment equipment, resulting in the strength (hardness) of the treated die can not meet the design requirements.  

The working life of the die: the structure of the die is unreasonable and the grain size exceeds the standard caused by heat treatment, which leads to the decrease of the main properties such as the toughness, cold and hot fatigue properties and wear resistance of the die, and affects the working life of the die.  

Mold manufacturing cost: As the intermediate or final process of the die manufacturing process, the cracking, deformation and performance of the die caused by heat treatment are excessive. In most cases, the die will be scrapped, even if it can be continued to use through repair, it will also increase the working hours, prolong the delivery time and increase the cost of the die manufacturing.  

It is the close relationship between heat treatment technology and die quality that makes these two technologies promote each other and improve together in the process of modernization. Since 1980s, vacuum heat treatment technology, surface hardening technology and Pre-hardening technology of die materials have developed rapidly in the world.
