Common workpiece defects (surface axial waveform) in cylindrical grinding and their causes and preventive measures


1) When the grinding wheel vibrates due to unbalanced rotation, attention should be paid to keep the grinding wheel balanced. The new grinding wheel needs to be statically balanced twice; if the grinding wheel is unbalanced, it needs to be rebalanced; before stopping, cut off the grinding fluid and let the grinding wheel run for several minutes without load before stopping;

2) The hardness of grinding wheel is too high or uneven;

3) The grinding wheel has been blunt or uneven wear on the circumference, and the grinding wheel has not been trimmed in time;

4) The dressing wheel is too fine or the top angle of diamond is blunt, which makes the dressed wheel not sharp;

5) If the speed of the workpiece is too high or there is burr in the center hole, the speed of the workpiece should be reduced and the center hole should be repaired;

6) If the diameter of the workpiece is too large or the weight is too heavy, the support frame should be increased and the cutting parameters should be reduced;

7) The workpiece itself is unbalanced and vibrates when rotating. The workpiece should be statically balanced on the machine tool and the speed of the workpiece should be reduced at the same time;

8) If the grinding wheel spindle bearing is worn or the fit clearance is too large, the bearing and spindle shall be reground to meet the specified requirements and adjusted to the required clearance;

9) If the bearing of the headstock spindle is loose or the bearing is worn, the bearing should be adjusted or replaced;

10) If the motor is unbalanced, the whole motor shall be balanced, and the motor bearing shall be replaced if necessary; meanwhile, vibration isolation measures shall be taken for the motor;

11) Wear of cross feed guide rail or roller makes anti vibration performance worse. The guide rail should be repaired and the roller should be re selected;

12) The oil pump vibrates and should be replaced;

13) The length of V-belt is inconsistent, and the thickness of flat tape is uneven;

14) The joint surface of the machine tool is loose. Check the contact between the Morse taper of the shift rod and the top and the sleeve taper hole. If the contact is not good, it should be carefully studied. If the matching of the tailstock sleeve is out of tolerance, the tailstock should be replaced;

15) If the taper of grinding wheel flange and spindle is not in good contact, the taper hole of flange should be ground;

16) If the machine tool is equipped with belt unloading capacity, the bearing wear rate is too large. The bearing should be replaced and its coaxiality should be adjusted.
