What are the advantages of heat treatment and quenching?

Today, we are going to talk about the advantages of flame heating and quenching. Spray the burning flame to the surface of the workpiece to make the surface layer reach the austenitizing temperature, then put the workpiece into the quenching tank or spray the quenching medium to the surface of the workpiece at a certain pressure to obtain a hardening layer on the surface of the workpiece.


At present, cr-m8 alloy cast iron or flame quenched steel is used in the large punch die of car covering parts for flame quenching, making the surface hardness over 55HRC and the depth of hardening layer up to 2-4mm. It is also common to quench single teeth of large gears with flame. Besides acetylene (C2H2), liquefied petroleum gas, various kinds of gas and natural gas can be used as its heat source. It's easy to operate,


Investment is very little so deep heat treatment processing favorite. Its heating methods include fixed position heating, workpiece rotation heating and continuous heating.


The hardening layer of fixed method and rotating method is deep, and the self tempering effect is good after quenching, but it is not suitable for thin-walled workpiece. The continuous hardening layer is shallow, needs mechanized equipment, and the process adjustment is complex.


High carbon steel and alloy steel should be precooled before flame heating quenching, otherwise it is easy to crack. Heat treatment can be made by slow cooling quenching medium or jet spray cooling.
