Introduction to several forms of pressure vessel failure


The pressure vessel loses its normal working ability due to high mechanical load or temperature load, which is called failure. There are three forms:

1. Strength failure: excessive plastic deformation or fracture of vessel under load.


2. Stiffness failure: excessive elastic deformation of the container leads to difficulty in transportation and installation or loss of normal working capacity.


3. Stability failure: the shape of the vessel changes suddenly under the load, resulting in the loss of working capacity.


In order to ensure the normal use of the equipment, the above three failure possibilities must be considered in the design of pressure vessels.
