It is a new technology of metal surface heat treatment developed in recent ten years. Laser beam transformation strengthening, namely laser quenching, is the most mature and widely used high energy beam surface heat treatment method. He quickly scans the workpiece with high-energy laser beam, so that the local area of the extremely thin layer on the surface of the material absorbs energy rapidly and the temperature rises sharply, and rapidly reaches the austenitizing temperature. At this time, the workpiece matrix is still in a cold state. After the laser leaves, due to the role of heat conduction, the heat in the heated area of the surface layer is rapidly transferred to other parts of the workpiece for rapid cooling, making the area The martensite structure is obtained by self cooling quenching in the instant, which makes the surface of the material change hardening.


The hardened layer of 0.25-2.0mm can be obtained by laser heating. Compared with the traditional heat treatment, laser quenching has the advantages of fine structure, high hardness, small deformation, accurate and controllable depth of the hardened layer, no need of quenching cooling medium and so on. The surface of parts made of carbon steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium alloy, aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy and other materials can be hardened. In addition, laser and other high-energy beams can be used as the pyrogen of the surface coating process to complete the surface quenching and coating process at one time.
